
Michael began his career in Irish Dancing and Music at the age of 5. His competitive dancing career spanned 15 years, solely under the direction of the late dance master, Cyril McNiff (TCRG/ADCRG). During that time he won many local and state championships, including The North American Dancing Championships in 1971 and 1975, as well as the Eastern Regional Championships in 1976. He also represented North America at numerous All-World Dancing Championships in Dublin during the 1970’s.
Michael earned his TCRG in 1984, and at that time was a musical assistant and choreographer to various dancing schools regarding their Dance Drama and show teams. Since then he has been a championship feis musician throughout the US, having recently played the 2008 North American Championships and the 2009 All-Worlds. His 2009 double CD release, “The Whispering Door” has won critical acclaim both here and abroad, and features music appropriate for all levels of Irish Dance.
Michael earned his ADCRG in 2006 and since then, has been active throughout the United States as an adjudicator as well as a musician. Residing in the Boston area of Massachusetts, he presently serves on the Executive Board of The New England Region in the capacity of Recording Secretary. In December 2008, Michael adjudicated the US Southern Regional Oireachtas, and feels extremely honored to have been selected to adjudicate at this year’s North American Championships.
